WATCH: How LEGO’s 90th anniversary castle was almost even more expensive

You’re going to need to come up with a hefty chunk of change to pick up LEGO ICONS 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle next month – but it could have been so much worse.

That’s because the flagship 90th-anniversary set didn’t always look like it does now. Design is a fluid process, things change along the way, and some ambitions aren’t always realised. Where 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle is concerned, all that is true – and then some. What’s ended up as a 4,514-piece LEGO ICONS set, with the price tag to match, was almost an entirely different beast – and it’s all thanks to the LEGO Group’s aim to make it as realistic as possible.

You can find out more about how 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle changed during the design process – and what might have been – by hitting play on our latest YouTube short, or heading over to our YouTube channel. And once you’re done, you might actually be glad it’s ‘only’ weighing in at £344.99 / $399.99 / €399.99.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
