Six of the best sets in LEGO BrickLink Designer Program Series 1

With 375 choices in the first series of the permanent BrickLink Designer Program, we’ve picked out six of the best options for LEGO models.

Voting is available for less than two more weeks in the BrickLink Designer Program Series 1 and there should be more than enough choice with 375 builds in total.

To help you decide which emoji to assign to which model, the voting system that is being used in the first series, we’ve picked out six of the best sets, at least to us, and taken a closer look at their designs.

6 – Floating Garage

Fan designer: Jolly Ramanujan Pieces: 3,715 Stickers: 6 Minifigures: 8

For minifigures who need a break while racing through the sky, this huge floating garage comes with everything you need to clean or fix your flying vehicles while grabbing a bite to eat.

The use of a repurposed bus gives the model a familiar feel while depicting something that reminds us of 5980 Squidman’s Pitstop.

5 – Glass Studio

There are plenty of modular buildings in the first series of the newly permanent BrickLink Designer Program though the Glass Studio by Ming Brick impresses with angled buildings similar to 10297 Boutique Hotel.

The use of transparent bricks, or glass to minifigures, is more than just a gimmick of the building too with it being used for the stairs, stained glass windows and various other pieces of art throughout the building.

4 – Oscillating Desk Fan

We’ve already got an official LEGO globe thanks to LEGO Ideas, so a desk fan doesn’t seem too far-fetched for the BrickLink Designer Program.

Gman13579’s design is functional and looks accurate to the real thing and it uses far fewer pieces than most other designs in the first series to boot.

3 – Compass of Adventure

Fan designer: PeppNGo Pieces: 2,510 Stickers: 0 Minifigures: 4

The conceptual Compass of Adventure is more of a display model than other BrickLink Designer Program Series 1 designs, but its function to rotate between four worlds is an interesting one.

The decision to design a draft box for the build makes it an eye-catching entry into the first series too.

2 – Retro Ant Habitat

Fan designer: timtoon Pieces: 465 Stickers: 0 Minifigures: 0

Recreating a product from before the LEGO Group’s patented brick was introduced, the Retro Ant Habitat is more risk-free than the real thing.

Though the ants, or spiders in this design, won’t be as active as in a real ant habitat, this smaller model should be easier to put together if it shatters to the ground. Suffice it to say that this build is like nothing in the official portfolio.

1 – The Rogue Tower

Fan designer: TheBrickedCave Pieces: 3,333 Stickers: 0 Minifigures: 4

While the LEGO BrickLink Designer Program’s first series is dominated by retro themes, TheBrickedCave’s The Rogue Tower presents an interesting option for more LEGO Castle – a diorama.

Like those for Star Wars, Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones, this submission includes the titular tower and a section of forest with classic, but inventive building techniques throughout.
