LEGO Star Wars designers explain the Clone Wars resurgence

Noticed there are a fair few LEGO Star Wars sets centred around the Clone Wars recently? The LEGO Star Wars designers explained why.

From compact battle packs like 75359 332nd Ahsoka’s Clone Trooper Battle Pack to enormous LEGO Star Wars UCS sets like 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser, there’s a Clone Wars set of virtually every size right now. It’s the Clone Wars 20th anniversary this year but not every Star Wars anniversary is celebrated with quite so many sets dedicated to a specific era.

Now, we’re not complaining. The return to droid minifigures, more detailed minifigures for old favourites like Captain Rex, and exploration of iconic Star Wars ships like the Venator is a welcome addition to the theme. However, it does beg the question: why are we being treated to so many – and why now?

During the LEGO Fan Media days recently, the LEGO Star Wars designers behind 75354 Coruscant Guard Gunship answered some of the big questions on everyone’s minds: why are we getting a Clone Wars resurgence in LEGO Star Wars? What went into styling Padme’s updated minifigure? And why didn’t we get double doors on the ship itself?

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
