LEGO Jaws and the secret Spielberg collection explained

LEGO Ideas 21350 Jaws is just the latest in a long line of LEGO sets inspired by the work of Steven Spielberg, producing a surprisingly symbiotic relationship between filmmaker and toy brand.

Between Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, and now Jaws, Steven Spielberg’s life’s work has provided inspiration for various LEGO sets over the years. Movie-inspired sets can be one-offs, like LEGO Icons 10300 Back to the Future Time Machine and now 21350 Jaws, or spark whole themes a la LEGO Jurassic World and Indiana Jones.

What’s more, it’s worth noting that LEGO sets are not just pulling content, characters, and locations from Spielberg movies; the movie icon’s work has also influenced LEGO sets over the years. Those effects can be felt not just in those sets but also in how the LEGO Group has approached other cinematic themes, like LEGO Harry Potter and Star Wars.

“If it weren’t for Spielberg, the LEGO Group’s current standing and approach to a lot of these sets would be entirely different,” argues Brick Fanatics‘ Matthew in our latest YouTube video.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
