Six LEGO Ideas projects that stand a chance in the third 2023 review
LEGO Ideas’ third 2023 review has moved to the next phase to give 42 projects a shot at a set, though some may stand a better chance than others.
LEGO Ideas’ wide range of sets is especially diverse and project-turned-sets in recent years have broadened the guidelines for what could theoretically be a LEGO set. LEGO Ideas has covered everything from downscaled instruments to motorised models and soon, it’s going to include an animal and a modular build.
While we’re a long way off from the results announcement, we know exactly which projects are now being considered for a LEGO model – and there are some familiar concepts in the mix. Out of the 42 submissions in the third 2023 review, here are six that could stand a better chance than others.
6 – Stray Kids ‘Oddinary Maniac’
21339 BTS Dynamite has proved that LEGO Ideas sets based on bands and specific music videos are entirely possible. The third 2023 review includes the likes of Harry Styles and Billie Eilish, but MadamTerrificHouse100 and Brick.Cucumber’s Stray Kids project is our pick for its close likeness to the overall design of the BTS set.
5 – Phineas and Ferb!
It hasn’t become a reality yet but with the return of Phineas and Ferb looming and two projects based on the animated series currently in review, we might as well name Greygo’s Phineas and Ferb! project as another build that could stand a chance in the third 2023 review. Provided any of these projects are picked for an official set, only one will likely become a LEGO Ideas model, but the home of the duo seems more likely than a buildable Perry or Doofenshmirtz Evil Inc.
4 – JWST
LEGO Ideas is home to plenty of space sets including one that was re-released after being a popular set initially. Tonysmyuncle proposes another model inspired by the James Webb Space Telescope. Its unique functionality and interesting build may improve its chances compared to NASA’s SLS Block 1 & 1B Rockets – Artemis Missions, which is comparatively similar to 92176 NASA Apollo Saturn V. That’s likely going to mean fewer drum-lacquered elements though/
3 – The Vintage Service Station
With the recent approval of a Botanical Garden build, modular projects now stand a genuine chance at a LEGO Ideas set, but with one potential caveat. Unlike the many building submissions that haven’t managed to become a LEGO Ideas set so far, Goannas Botanical Garden is something that we’re unlikely to see in the LEGO Modular Buildings Collection. This might give The Vintage Service Station by MOCturnal and Besbaddesign an edge over other projects. The small ground floor section in 10264 Corner Garage is notably similar to this model, but a dedicated vintage service station build may still be worthwhile.
2 – Rainforest Frogs
31211 Macaw Parrots and (possibly) the upcoming LEGO Ideas cat set are forming the start of a new LEGO Fauna Collection. Mario Vela’s Rainforest Frogs could join this new collection, provided it’s picked in the third 2023 review. This range of brick-built frogs and plants is also comparable to 21342 The Insect Collection and a similar set would suit the project.
1 – IKEA Store Modular
The LEGO Group’s previous collaboration with IKEA, which resulted in BYGGLEK, could be taken one step further with another non-standard modular LEGO Ideas set. Brickster0404’s IKEA modular building is undeniably unique compared to the official LEGO Modular Buildings Collection but the presence of an existing partnership between the two companies gives this project a better chance than most submissions.
