LEGO Ideas 21350 Jaws should pair well with an existing set

An existing and long-since retired beachside LEGO Ideas set from 2017 should pair quite well with the upcoming 21350 Jaws.

We got our first official look today at 21350 Jaws, a 1,497-piece set priced at £129.99 / $149.99 / €149.99. The upcoming LEGO Ideas model is based on a successful submission by fan designer Jonny Campbell and comes with 1,497 pieces. Lucky LEGO Insiders members can snag the movie build from August 3, with a wider launch for all from August 6.

As well as a brick-built great white shark and three minifigures based on the iconic characters from Steven Spielberg’s 1975 blockbuster, 21350 Jaws also features what looks to be a fairly accurate recreation of Quint’s boat, the Orca.

The information and images released so far reveal that the ship has a detailed cabin with removable roof, an adjustable boom and rigging, plus plenty of aquatic accessories. In addition, 21350 Jaws’ Orca also appears to capture the overall rustic feel of the seagoing Amity Island vessel quite well.

That’s good news for those who already own a copy of a previous LEGO Ideas set from 2017, that being 21310 Old Fishing Store. The long-since retired model included 2,049 pieces and featured a beachside shop packed with fishing-themed elements and a connected watchtower. The model also came with minifigures of a captain, fisherman, fisherwoman and a child, plus three seagulls.

Although not based on the classic Universal Studios monster movie, there’s no reason why 21310 Old Fishing Store wouldn’t make an ideal companion for 21350 Jaws’ Orca, which could always be moored next to the shop. The Amity harbour in Jaws included many such rundown shacks similar to the LEGO Ideas build, so the two sets wouldn’t look out of place side-by-side.

Having said that, you may first need to get hold of the retired LEGO Ideas model, with a sealed copy currently going for £277 / $327 on BrickLink. Combine that price with the cost of 21350 Jaws and you’re definitely gonna need a bigger wallet…

21350 Jaws will be released for Insiders members from August 3, with everyone else getting a shot at the set from August 6. The LEGO Ideas model is priced at £129.99 in the UK, $149.99 in the US and €149.99 in Europe.
