LEGO Ideas 21350 Jaws officially revealed

You’re going to need a bigger shelf for the latest LEGO Ideas set, which adapts cinema’s original blockbuster into a display model with bite in 21350 Jaws.

Unveiled today by the LEGO Group, 21350 Jaws is based on a concept by LEGO Ideas user Jonny Campbell, tweaked and reimagined as a mass-market display model. Combining different elements of Jonny’s original design, the finished product includes the Orca boat, a shark and a display stand, complete with a printed tile featuring the movie’s most iconic quote: “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”

The shark can be displayed rising from the water and attacking the Orca or on its own separate display stand, calling back to the two options Jonny pitched in his original LEGO Ideas submission. 21350 Jaws also features minifigures of Chief Brody, Hooper and Quint, along with accessories including a revolver, fishing rod, compass, harpoon, spear and yellow barrels.

“Jaws is my favourite movie of all time, so I really wanted to recreate it in LEGO bricks,” Jonny said. “LEGO building has always been a part of my life in some shape or form but in order to get all of the finer details, I actually freeze-framed Jaws as I watched it so that I could catch a glimpse of the finer details, taking notes as I went along.

“It is just mind-blowing that my design is now an official LEGO set. I can’t wait to stand in a LEGO shop looking at the shelves and seeing a set that I have been involved with and watching someone buying it. It’s every LEGO fan’s dream!”

LEGO Ideas 21350 Jaws includes 1,497 pieces. You’ll be able to buy it from LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores on August 3 if you’re signed up to the LEGO Insiders program, or from August 6 if not. It’s set to retail for £129.99 in the UK, $149.99 in the US and €149.99 in Europe.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
