LEGO Icons 10318 Concorde designer reveals favourite part of the set

There’s a lot that goes into making a set as detailed as LEGO Icons 10318 Concorde, but every designer will always have a favourite section.

For LEGO Designer Milan Madge who worked on 10318 Concorde, his favourite part of the set is an area that often gets overlooked. While the sleek shape of the iconic plane and the inclusion of well-known features like the droop snoot have been applauded by fans of the build, Milan himself is a fan of one of the smallest part of the build.

“One of my favourite parts of the model is actually the stand,” Milan said in the designer video for the set. “We worked really hard to create this aesthetic representing the ’60s and ’70s.

“It’s a faux wood and metal stand. On the front, we’ve included the Concorde logo and then we’ve got its first flight, cruising speed, and, obviously, the all-important collaboration between Britain and France in designing and making this aircraft.”

Indeed, this effect is achieved with great success, to the extent that you might not even think it’s made from LEGO bricks. Brown bricks are used to create the solid plaque itself, with a printed element to replicate the metal-effect information section. That means there’s no stress about getting sticks on straight either, so you’re guaranteed to have a seamlessly smooth final effect on the plaque.

It’s practical as well as pretty, too, allowing you to display your fully-built 10318 Concorde in landing, in-flight, and take-off modes as you prefer. What’s more, as Milan also points out in the designer video, 10318 Concorde stands apart from some other LEGO sets in that it looks great from the bottom, with a smooth finish and elements picking out the engine details, just like in the real-life plane.

“We were joking when we were designing it that this is probably the best-looking LEGO model from underneath the model,” joked Milan.
