LEGO bricks hold a secret perfect for the 90th anniversary
The design of LEGO bricks might be more genius than originally intended as a hidden secret has been discovered in time for the 90th anniversary.
Reddit user fourdac decided to measure a LEGO stud, an iconic aspect of almost every LEGO brick. Why they decided to take this measurement is unclear but it’s a good thing they did as it turns out a stud’s diameter measures exactly 0.1932 inches, coinciding with the year that the LEGO Group was founded.
The timing of this measurement is perfect too as 2022 is the 90th anniversary of the LEGO Group, meaning this discovery came just in time before the anniversary celebrations ended.
While LEGO bricks are cleverly designed to fit with one another perfectly, whether this was done on purpose is unknown, though it’s worth noting that Denmark uses the metric system of measurements rather than Imperial, with studs measuring just over 4.9mm.
As discussed in the comments, it’s possible that this particular stud is slightly bigger than intended, throwing off the measurement. However, it’s still an interesting coincidence just in time for the 90th anniversary of the company.
For all we know, this could be a secret that has been under our noses for 90 years or be a slightly incorrect measurement but the timing of this discovery is near-perfect. Official celebrations for the 90th anniversary of the LEGO Group in 2022 include the release of five anniversary sets and worldwide events
