LEGO 40682 Spring Garden House gift-with-purchase review
Available with qualifying orders later this month comes 40682 Spring Garden House, a new LEGO gift-with-purchase for which you are probably not the target audience.
It’s surprisingly rare to see a boxed LEGO gift-with-purchase that’s not aimed explicitly at adults, or at least at all ages, as the LEGO Group tries to tempt its growing adult audience to shop direct (rather than turning to third-party retailers for discounts). But it’s tough to say 40682 Spring Garden House will appeal to many people beyond the minimum age range on the box, which recommends the set for ages six and up.
That’s partly because it doesn’t really fit in anywhere else in your LEGO collection – the scale sees to that – and even as a standalone Easter decoration, it’s tough to say it has much appeal. The house comes together in a pretty straightforward way, with very few details to speak of, and is accompanied by a couple of buildable animals that adhere to similar LEGO design language elsewhere, which… won’t be for everyone.
It’s at least a very colourful build, with appropriate pastel tones for spring, so budding builders might find that it’s a useful parts pack for comparatively rarer hues in the LEGO palette. The colour composition on the whole is probably the best thing about 40682 Spring Garden House, in fact: well, that and the size.
The LEGO Group has yet to confirm the qualifying spend required for this set, though there are whispers floating around the web that it won’t be quite as high as recent gifts-with-purchase. That also makes sense for its intended audience: few kids (or parents) will have more than £100 to drop at this time of year, so having the threshold come in at around £75 / $80 / €80 would make it more manageable.
That would improve the appeal of 40682 Spring Garden House a fair bit from a value perspective too, because this is a pretty substantial build at 277 pieces. Fingers crossed it does come in at a lower threshold, but what we do know is that 40682 Spring Garden House will be available at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores from March 12, so pop the date in your calendar if you’re interested in this one (or know someone who will be).

- I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
